KATAKLYSM Frontman's EX DEO: New Demo Track Posted Online
January 11, 2009EX DEO, the new band led by KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono, has posted a demo version of the track "Cry Havoc" on the group's MySpace page. The song will appear on the group's forthcoming debut album, "Romulus", tentatively due in September via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD is being produced by KATAKLYSM guitarist Jean-Francois Dagenais (MISERY INDEX, DESPISED ICON, MALEVOLENT CREATION) at JFD studios.
Commented Iacono: "I chose to debut the new track on January 11 because it is the day my father was born (he passed away a few years ago). My father was a disciple of Roman history and taught me many things throughout the years. I remember a time he said, 'Son, everything you see around you, our ancestors built the foundation for it. From the way the wars were fought to the democracy you live in…' and I have been fascinated by it ever since. For his soul looking over me and for the future of this project, I launch a new seed for Roma on the 11th of 2009."
Regarding the recording process for "Romulus", Iacono said, "I have enlisted the people that I trust the most on this important project (the boys in KATAKLYSM) to work with me on the first EX DEO album, maybe all of them, we'll see how it goes. Jean-Francois Dagenais, Stephane Barbe and Max Duhamel are family and it is important to me to be comfortable and at home. The difference in EX DEO is that Stephane will be taking on guitar duties, and as some of you know, his classical background will come into play here. I have also enlisted Jonathan Leduc from Montreal's stellar formation BLACKGUARD to carry out the roman symphonies and madness on the keys. The bass player will come from one of Canada's best: Francois Mongrain of MARTYR. We're also currently looking into having some special guest and friends on the new album. We'll see how it works out!
"On a last note, I'd like to shoot down any rumors and reassure any worried fans that I am NOT leaving KATAKLYSM for EX DEO, absolutely NOT. KATAKLYSM is my baby and we're still going to tour throughout 2009 for 'Prevail' and then record a new album for 2010. We already have a working title and we're going to create a classic that will turn heads, it's a promise! For now, we're going to take our time and make it right."
"Romulus" is scheduled to be completed by mid-March.
